The Very Rev’d Andrew Asbil, Rector of St. James Cathedral and Dean of Toronto, Elected Coadjutor Bishop of Toronto
June 9, 2018
It is our pleasure to congratulate our Dean, The Very Reverend Andrew Asbil, on his election as Coadjutor Bishop of Toronto, which took place today at the Electoral Synod 2018 of the Diocese of Toronto.
It is our experience that Dean Andrew is a gifted administrator and pastor, and an exemplar of the love of Christ. While we regret losing him from the helm of St. James, we are confident that he will provide capable and inspiring leadership to our diocese as it faces the challenges of the next decade.
Dean Andrew will remain at St. James until September, with his consecration taking place on Saturday, September 29. There will be a transition of leadership over the next few months as the process begins of selecting a new Rector for St. James. Throughout this period, we will continue to rely on the steadfast leadership of our Vicar, The Rev’d Louise Peters, with the support of our Associate Priest, The Rev’d Leigh Kern; Assistant Curate, The Rev’d James Liu; our Pastoral Associates, and Honorary Assistants.
St. James’ programs and planning will continue seamlessly. The Dean has placed emphasis since his nomination on maintaining momentum in all our activities and operations. We look forward to a bright future with Dean Andrew right next door at the diocesan office.
We ask for your prayers for Archbishop Colin Johnson as he approaches his December retirement, and for Bishop-Elect Asbil as he prepares for his consecration.
Yours in Christ,
Jayne Hobbs, Rector’s Warden
Don Solomon, People’s Warden
