Bishop Strachan Commemoration

On November 1 (All Saints’ Day), the Cathedral will hold a special event to mark the 150th anniversary of the death of Bishop John Strachan on November 1, 1867. Strachan was an early rector of this church. He was the first Anglican bishop of Toronto, and a major figure in the history of Upper Canada.

The commemoration on November 1 will be held in Snell Hall, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Speakers will include Archbishop Colin Johnson, the Provost of Trinity College in the University of Toronto (the College was founded by Strachan), and a member of the congregation who will impersonate Strachan and reflect on his life. There will be an exhibit of Strachan material from the Cathedral archives and from Trinity College. Refreshments will be served.

In view of the seating capacity of Snell Hall, attendance will be limited to approximately 300 people. If you wish to attend the event, please let the Cathedral know by registering either online here or by phone (416-364-7865, ext. *221).
