Cities For Life – Against The Death Penalty

Friday, November 24, 2017
6:30pm at St James Cathedral

This year marks Toronto’s tenth anniversary as a city for life. Opening remarks will be made by James Lockyer and the keynote address will be given by Alex Neve, Secretary-General of Amnesty International Canada. The evening will include musical performances, and conclude with the illumination of St. James Cathedral

Cities For Life is an annual event in which cities around the world speak out against the death penalty. It began on 30 November 2002, the anniversary of the 1786 abolition of the death penalty in Tuscany, Italy. Today, over 2,000 cities take part by illuminating significant buildings or monuments, making proclamations and holding other events. Cities for Life is supported by the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty, of which Amnesty International is a founding member. Amnesty International is a worldwide movement of people dedicated to the protection and promotion of human rights.
