After a search process involving choirs, clergy, wardens, representatives of the congregation and external advisors, we are delighted to announce that St. James Cathedral has appointed David Simon to be our new organist.
David currently serves as the organist for the Episcopal Church at Yale University, Noroton Presbyterian Church and the Berkeley Divinity School. He holds degrees from Trinity College in the University of Toronto and Yale University where he is completing his Doctorate in Organ Performance. He has attained ARCCO and ARTC diplomas, and has been awarded the Godfrey Hewitt Memorial Prize, Willan Scholarship, Wayne C. Vance Scholarship, Rollinson Prize and the Ruth and Ralph Barker Prize from those institutions.
David is a graduate of St. Michael’s Cathedral Choir School who excels in composition, improvisation, liturgical performance and gives recitals to an internationally high standard. In a unanimous decision of a truly outstanding candidate, the search committee is thrilled to welcome David to the Cathedral staff for the beginning of his musical ministry with us on Sunday, May 19.
