225th Anniversary Service

On Sunday, November 20 we celebrated the Feast of the Reign of Christ – the last Sunday before Advent – with a special Anniversary service.

The Most Reverend Linda Nicholls, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, was our guest preacher at the 11:00am service. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

This year we celebrate 225 years of Anglican Ministry in Toronto and the life of St. James Cathedral, a symbol of God’s presence and love in the city.

In 1797 the first worshiping community in the Town of York – now known as Toronto – was formalized when a location for a church was determined and a full-time priest was appointed.

Over the years, their places of worship may have changed, from makeshift spaces to a wooden church to a cathedral building in the Gothic revival style, but the community has continued to gather in praise and thanks.

This year we remember and honour those who have preceded us and were responsible for keeping alive the liturgical traditions and for creating the splendid surroundings we enjoy today.
