Change Ringers

The Cathedral Guild of Change Ringers consists of about 25 members of all ages, who ring North America’s first full set of 12 change-ringing bells (the only one in Canada, and one of only two installations on the continent).

The Bells of Old York are rung before the 11:00am service on Sundays, beginning as soon as the 9:00am service has ended – usually sometime around 10:10am.

Practice is on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and the guild frequently welcomes ringing visitors from around the world. On two or three occasions each year, well known 12 bell ringing bands visit to ring a “peal.” A peal is continuous ringing of 5000 changes or more and takes approximately 3 hours 15 minutes on our bells. Generally these occasions are publicized as the ringing is of excellent quality and music.

The St. James Guild of Change Ringers are always happy to give newcomers the opportunity to learn how to ring. Please contact the guild through the parish office.

The Guild’s current officers are:

Tower Captain: Dan Tregunno

Deputy Tower Captain: Robin Clarke

Ringing Master: Pauline Smith

Secretary: Madeleine Cheesman

Treasurer: Sue White

Steeple Keeper: David Wilcox
