Giles Bryant was Director of Music and Organist at St. James Cathedral for twenty years (1979–1999). During this time, he fostered strong relationships between St. James Cathedral and Royal St. George’s College and other schools in the area. Students from these schools were encouraged to sing with the cathedral choir, resulting in a lifelong love of church music and many other profound benefits for their young choristers.

Scholarships have been established for two or more students to recognize the exceptional music-making and dedication of Dr. Giles Bryant. They are held on an annual basis, renewable at the beginning of each school year until the students reach university age.

It is intended that the scholarships encourage the following:
• Outstanding choral skills
• An appreciation and understanding of the Anglican Church—its ceremony, doctrine, and community
• Confidence, social skills, organization, and timeliness

The first two recipients of the scholarships were appointed in September 2025.
