Announcement from Bishop Asbil (March 22)

Anglican Diocese of Toronto

Dear Friends,

I have some news to share with you that will be exciting for Louise Peters’ family but not for us at St. James Cathedral or in the Diocese of Toronto. Louise’s husband has accepted an appointment to a parish in British Columbia, which will bring the Peters/Chalmers family much closer together. Consequently, I accepted her resignation as Vicar of St. James Cathedral on Friday, March 20, 2020.

Allow me to share Louise’s own words about some of the details of this appointment and her departure:

Dear good people of St James,

It has been a joy and delight to be your Vicar these past few years. It has been a time of transition and challenge for the Cathedral, and I have been privileged to serve in ministry with you through this time. We have been steady in prayer and faith as the people of God, and I know that you will continue to uphold this long-standing deep commitment of faith, ministry and worship here in this holy place and this city.

The time has come for me to move on. My husband has accepted a position in ministry as the incumbent of the North Thompson Ecumenical Shared Ministry in the communities of Clearwater and Barriere in the central interior of British Columbia. Bruce begins his work in early June, so my last day at the Cathedral will be May 15, 2020.

I hold very dearly my time here. I am so very grateful for your prayers, love and support. I will continue to keep you in my heart and prayers as you move into the future God holds for you, and kindly ask the same of you for us as we make our way west.

God is always with us and ever faithful.

Gratefully, Your Vicar, Louise

Louise will conclude her presence in the Cathedral community on May 15, 2020, at which time she will be on vacation until she and Bruce move west. Louise is a person with tremendous gifts, and we are grateful that she has shared them with us for a time. She saw the Cathedral through a substantial transition period leading up to the appointment of the new Dean. I know we are all most grateful for her caring, calming and pastoral presence during that time. Please pray for Louise, Bruce and your beloved Cathedral community as you enter another season of transition.

Yours in Christ,

Bishop Andrew Asbil signature
