The Very Rev’d Peter Wall, D.D., M.Div.
The Very Rev. Peter Wall retired from full-time ministry after 21 years as Dean of Niagara and Rector of Christ’s Church Cathedral, Hamilton, in the fall of 2019. Since then, he has been busy handling interim assignments and carrying out various responsibilities for the General Synod.
Ordained in the Diocese of Huron in 1989, Peter had, prior to ordination, completed a Mus. Bac. degree in Performance (Voice) from the University of Toronto and sang and taught professionally for several years, while also working on the staff of Hart House and being Director of The University Community Centre at Western University in London, ON.
After several parish incumbencies in Huron, Peter was appointed Dean of Niagara in the fall of 1998. Actively involved both in the local Hamilton community and in the broader church, he has been an active participant and member of General Synod at each Synod since 1998 and served as Deputy Prolocutor for General Synod 2019 in Vancouver. He has served several terms on the Council of General Synod, as member and Chair of the Planning and Agenda Committee, as Co-Chair for several years of the Joint Anglican Lutheran Commission for Canada and served as Acting General Secretary for The Anglican Church of Canada for three months in 2020. He has been an active facilitator for parish and diocesan stewardship, and an active participant in various bodies for liturgical renewal in the Church. He was privileged to serve a term as the Anglican Church of Canada’s representative to the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church (USA) and travelled as an ecumenical advisor to the church on the Holy Land and the Middle East, along with the then Primate of the ACC and the National Bishop of the ElCIC.
For almost 20 years, Dean Wall performed with two other priests and a wonderful pianist as ‘The Three Cantors’, raising funds for PWRDF and other agencies, singing over 250 concerts and raising almost $2 million.
Peter is delighted to be coming to St. James and looks forward to the challenges and the opportunities, and to meeting and working with the good people of the Cathedral.
