Early Music at St. James – Selected Thursdays at 1:00pm at St. George’s Chapel

Thursday, April 25: Lazzuli Baroque

Early Music at St. James is pleased to present Lazzuli Baroque performing an exciting program of 17th century Italian songs for two sopranos by Monteverdi, Sances, Strozzi, and Merula.

Lazzuli Baroque was born as a love letter to tight soprano harmonies and raucously fun music making. Founded by soprano Roseline Lambert (“exquisite” – La Presse) and mezzo-soprano Rocky Duval (“beautiful, vocally and visually” – Deviant Opera), the band is a delightful amalgam of sensual baroque technique with the duo’s signature vocal prowess. Here to make you smile, laugh, cry, and above all, enjoy the delicious beauty of baroque music, they are joined by some of Toronto’s most renowned early music musicians: lute player Lucas Harris, and viola da gamba player Felix Deák.

Early Music at St. James is a new concert series initiative to present performances on historical instruments in the intimate and superb acoustics of St. James’ St. George Chapel. Four concerts will be held throughout the season at 1:00pm on Thursdays, following the noon hour Eucharist and will offer approximately 45 minutes of music. This will be a fantastic opportunity to hear soloists and small ensembles perform historical repertoire right in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Admission is free. Donations welcome to support music at St. James Cathedral.
