June 2023: Parish Selection Committee update
June 2023 – Parish Selection Committee Update:
The Parish Selection Committee has met with Bishop Asbil. He has given us a list of promising candidates to be interviewed for the position of Rector of St. James Cathedral & Dean of Toronto. We will be interviewing candidates over the summer. Therefore, we have moved into the phase of our work where we must count on the sensitivity of the parish to respect the confidentiality of the process. As always, your prayers are very much appreciated as we move through this next step in the selection process.
April 2023:
Parish Selection Committee – Information Sessions
Now that the Parish Profile has been published and the Bishop has opened applications for our new Rector and Dean, the PSC organized in-person meetings on Sunday, April 23 after the 9:00am and the 11:00am services and an online information meeting on Tuesday, April 25 to share the work that has been completed and gather in a sense of the community.
Thank you all for your participation and for sharing your thoughts about our Cathedral life and future as we undertake our next steps.
“A big thank you to all who attended the Parish Selection Committee Consultations in-person and by Zoom. We hope the sessions were as informative for you as they were for us. Your thoughtful and wide-ranging comments, questions, and suggestions will very much enrich our selection process as we go forward. For a start, they will be incorporated into material for our next discussion with Bishop Asbil. Further consultation sessions with the parish will be scheduled as we reach the next steps in our search. Thank you again for the time and attention that you all give to the search for our new rector and Dean.”
Please continue to get in touch with us in-person at coffee hours and by email through the Warden’s email at wardens@stjamescathedral.ca.

January 2023:
Bishop Andrew Asbil has approved the Parish Profile text. We hope to release the profile in January on his advice. As St. James has revitalized over the past year, frequent revisions to the Profile have been needed to continue to reflect a current picture of the parish.
As you can see from the Timeline of the Parish Selection Process here, we are deep in phase 2. Once the profile has been released, candidates may apply to the bishop. The Parish Selection Committee will continue to design an interview process that focuses on the characteristics outlined in the “What We Seek” section of the Parish Profile and the generous input we have had from parish members, clergy past and present, and bishop.
We are planning an information session with the parish to discuss the process in the early part of 2023 and to answer questions about how the search will go forward in the new year.
