Sermon Series, “Living the Baptismal Covenant”

The ministry of every Christian begins with Baptism. It is in Baptism that we are joined with Christ in his death and resurrection, imbued with the grace of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and made members of the Body of Christ, the Church, the New Israel. This ministry can only be effective and energizing when the Christian has a clear understanding of the meaning of The Baptised Life. This is our hope! This is our prayer!

Building on 225 years of ministry in the city of Toronto and as we look to the future, we desire to live into the six core values set out in the document, “Priorities for a Time of Transition: Vestry 2022 to Vestry 2025”. The first of these core values is “Authenticity in connections with the Divine”. We desire to be “a purposeful congregation where people can encounter Jesus, grow in discipleship, and participate in God’s mission for the world”. Our witness can only be authentic when we have a clear understanding and appreciation of the ministry of The Baptized. This ministry is stated succinctly in the Baptismal Covenant and is reaffirmed at every baptism and at the Easter Vigil.

Beginning next Sunday, September 25, and continuing every Sunday until October 30, the Sunday before the next Baptism at the cathedral, there will be a Sermon Series, “Living the Baptismal Covenant”. This series is intended to bring our vocation to share in the life and death of Christ into sharper focus.

We look forward to welcoming you at the 9:00am & 11:00am services:

Sept 25: “Continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers” – Canon Dr Stephen Fields.
Oct 2: “Resist evil, Repent of sin, Return to the Lord” – Canon Beth Benson
