Why giving is important

Our stewardship is how we demonstrate our discipleship as Christians and as members of our St. James Cathedral community. As stewards, we commit to a life of generosity in all aspects of our lives, offering gifts of our time, our abilities, and our financial resources.

We know how deeply our parishioners love St. James, its heritage and its ministry. The Cathedral offers worship, online and in-person; music; pastoral care; Christian education; and essential outreach programs like the Drop-In. It is a place of sanctuary, prayer, and meditation for all and open six days a week. In practical terms, your support is responsible for keeping the doors open, the lights on, and all of this work continuing every day.

At Vestry 2023, there was an overview of Stewardship, including a breakdown of 2022 offerings, a comparison of giving over the past few years, and a guide to help determine offering levels.

A large part of the expenses that revenue supports is Property, which means the day-to-day operations of this place.

As members of the congregation, we are St. James Cathedral – we can’t ask any outside source to pay the electricity bill or the salaries of those who keep the doors open. We are responsible for all that.

If we don’t support it to the best of our abilities – why should anyone else?

THANK YOU for taking some time to reflect on what this community means to you – and how we can best support all that happens here.

Consider Pre-Authorized Giving

St. James Cathedral could not do all that it does without your generous donations.  For your continuing commitment, we say thank you.

Many of our households support the congregation’s programs and ministries through Pre-Authorized Giving or PAG—a monthly pre-authorized remittance from your bank account.

Giving by PAG is easy to arrange and makes life simpler.  If you must be away from church, your gifts to support Christ’s ministries will continue. You do not have to find the correct amount of cash for your weekly offering nor do you need to write a cheque.  You will also have the satisfaction of knowing that our church will have a steady stream of income to support its ministries, month by month, through a safe and secure means.

To activate PAG, please click here.

With PAG – Pre-Authorized Giving – your support for St. James is always where it is needed.
