A letter from James Liu

To all of you, St. James’ Cathedral members in Christ,
I hope that this letter can express my most sincere and most ultimate gratitude.

It has been almost a month since the departure of my wife has brought a catastrophic strike to me and my family. However, it is in the midst of this valley of death that I see the ray of light from the Cathedral. You raised me up when I was about to collapse; you gave me the utmost help when I was helpless; your comfort re-ignited my life when I was completely without any strength.

Painted on the upper side of the stained glass of the east side of the altar table, is the teaching of Jesus. “For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked, and you gave me clothing, I was sick, and you took care of me, I was in prison, and you visited me.”

In my personal experience, I see another stained glass, recorded by your faithful love. And this paint is not made of beautiful ink but made of your beautiful lives, made of your authentic faith, which has become the light that shines in my twilight world and overcomes it. You gave a glass of water to me, the least and the weakest of members of my family. And I shall remember it as long as I live. I’m really grateful for it.

The Cathedral Church of St. James to me and to my family has some special significant meaning. It was not only a workplace but our home as we lived on site in the early years. Many of you have watched me grow gradually. And all the members of the Cathedral in Christ are like family members to me. And now, particularly now, I have felt the love from the Cathedral family. I really appreciate your help, your support, and your comforting words to me. Indeed, I’m grateful!

Let us continue praying for each other. May God sustain us, on this heavenly journey.

Thank you,
James Liu
